Here are the homework choices (just in case anyone loses their sheet)

How to complete your homework task

  • Earn a minimum of 10 points a week.
  • Use a pencil and do your tasks neatly in your homework book.
  • Remember a date and a heading.
  • Extend yourself and try to earn as many points as you can!
  • Choose your activities from the list below.  You may repeat activities, however not in the same week.
5 point choices
  • Write the words neatly in joined up writing.
  • Write your words using one colour for vowels and another colour for consonants
  • Draw a picture of 10 of your spelling words.
  • Write your words in ABC order.

10 point choices

  • Write  your words three times in joined up  writing.
  • Write your words three times each in three different colours
  • Make a word scramble and solve it using your words.
  • Use all your spelling words to write 10 or more questions
  • Write an antonym for each word
  • Look up your words in the dictionary and write their meaning
  • Using your dictionary find ten of your spelling words and write down the page number along with the two guide words at the top of the dictionary page.
  • Classify the words according to parts of speech.
  • Write sentences with each words.
  • Write a newspaper article using ten or more of the words.
  • Write a great story using at least ten of  your spelling words.
  • Write newspaper headlines using your words.
  • Make a word search with all of your words.
  • Write a letter to a friend using all your spelling words.
  • Create a cartoon strip using at least 8 spelling words
  • Type your spelling list four times; with each list typed in a different font.

        15 point Choices



  •         Cut the words out of magazines and newspapers and make a collage
  •         Cut out a picture from a newspaper or a magazine and use spelling words to write a story about the picture.

Miss Matheson's Recorder Club

Some of the children in Year 4 attend the after school recorder club. Today they visited Miss. Penkman's class in FS2 to play 'Old McDonlad' to them.


The children had been learning the nursery rhyme and the recorder club have been practicing the melody . . . so showcase our talents?

The Problem Solving Chant

The first thing we need to learn before we start any problem solving is the problem solving chant, it goes like this:

Identify the problem so you all understand,
Then you listen to each other, coz you've got to make a plan,
Then you do, you do it, you do it, do it, do it,
Then you check.
