Miss Matheson's Recorder Club

Some of the children in Year 4 attend the after school recorder club. Today they visited Miss. Penkman's class in FS2 to play 'Old McDonlad' to them.

The children had been learning the nursery rhyme and the recorder club have been practicing the melody . . . so showcase our talents?

Do you think the children have done well to learn this in only two weeks?
Would you like them to visit your class?

The Problem Solving Chant

The first thing we need to learn before we start any problem solving is the problem solving chant, it goes like this:

Identify the problem so you all understand,
Then you listen to each other, coz you've got to make a plan,
Then you do, you do it, you do it, do it, do it,
Then you check.

Have a look at us saying it before we solve today's problem . . .

Teaching using Games Based Learning

Here is the video that many parents have requested to see again. It is of Mr. McCafferty teaching using the Wii as a stimulus. If you have any questions about what we are doing in Year 4 at the moment please ask in the comments section.

Thanks.

Spelling Strategies

Year 4 have been trying out new multi-sensory spelling strategies. We have been writing in rainbow colours, making patch-work quilts, writing on windows, using floating letters in water, writing in sand trays, the list could go on and on . . . Why not try some of them at home?

Food Chain

Last week we were learning about what a food chain is. We have been looking at various species of animals from land and under the sea to find about what they eat. Have a look at the food chains we made:

The Invisible Maze

Back at the start of term, all three year 4 classes took part in their first problem solving task: The Invisible Maze! The children need to work together to try and work out the route for the maze. These are the rules:

  1. Only one person is allowed in the maze at a time.
  2. You can only step into the squares directly beside the one you are in.
  3. If you make a wrong move you will hear a noise, but will not be told what was wrong.
  4. If you make a correct move you will hear nothing.
  5. The teacher will not speak at all during the task.

In the Comments:
  • Pupils: Do you think the maze was difficult?
  • Parents: What did you think of the maze?
